Danika Patrick crashes at Ford EcoBoost 400

Danika Patrick walked out of Homestead-Miami Speedway an angry and disappointed person. This was not how she wanted her last NASCAR race as a full-time driver to end. The sadness and disappointment she felt about her exit from the race were obvious.

Tragedy for Patrick

Patrick’s race was over after completing 139 laps of the 267-lap Ford Ecoboost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway when she hit the wall between turns three and four, which caused her to eventually lose a front tire and have her car filled with smoke once it caught fire. The double tragedy happened when she hit the wall and Kasey Kahne, who was directly behind her, slammed into Patrick as she had nowhere to go.

Patrick’s Bitter Reaction

After being cleared by the infield medical care center, Patrick said that she felt angry. She also expressed her disappointment adding that it was her fault that the tire rub happened as the car hit the wall.

The Extensive Damage

Patrick climbed out of her smoke-filled, burning, wrecked car and trudged towards the pit road. She pulled off her helmet and gloves in frustration before medics took her to the infield care center. Her car rolled up in flames after she blew out a tire before being struck by Kasey Kahne near the midway point of the Ford EcoBoost 400 on Sunday.

Future Hopes not crashed yet

Well, it was a tough way to exit her final race as a full-time driver, and she announced this on Friday. However, Patrick pointed out the silver lining as she plans to race in NASCAR’s Daytona 500 next February and IndyCar’s Indy 500 in May. “There is still racing in my future and still 1000 miles to go,” she said.

Though the thoughts of her future endeavors did little to improve a disappointing day, she remains optimistic. The race in Homestead, Florida was her final race as a full-time driver for Stewart-Haas Racing.
