Bruton Smith Finally In Racing Hall Of Fame

He failed once.  He failed twice.  But there was no holding Bruton Smith from his hall of fame glory on the third try.

Smith, who is now 88-years-old didn't expect to get in this time either.  He runs Speedway Motorsports Incorporated.  His company is responsible for eight race tracks that play hosts to NASCAR events.

"I had not thought anything about it, quite honestly," he said Sunday during the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. "I think I gave up on it at least a year or two years ago. It's amazing the reaction about this, and I think that's pretty special."

He didn't make the cut the other times, but there was no denying him this week. He received 68 percent of votes from the panel, which is more than any other person on the block.

He former drivers Curtis Turner, Terry Labonte, and Jerry Cook will also be included.
