Dovizioso wins Qatar GT by a hair

It was the first MotoGP race of the 2018 season in Qatar. Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso had a very close victory in a very close fight with reigning champion, Honda's Marc Marquez. The difference: 0.027 s.

Saying that it was by a hair is actually an understatement. Polesitter Johann Zarco converted first on the grid managing an early lead on his Yamaha Tech 3.  Dovizioso and Marquez were queued up in front of 8 bikes for much of the race. It took until lap 18 of 20 for both racers to start catching up towards the lead.

Both bike passed Zarco at Turn 1, quickly disengaging from the French biker to start their own personal race. He and Marquez were nose to tail all the time, with Marquez making a final attempt to pass Dovizioso at the final corner on the last lap.

But Dovizioso was not going to let that happen as he managed to edge back on the exit, keeping Marquez close to his drag to claim his 9th MotoGP victory ever.

The second runner-up, Valentino Rossi had passed Zarco on the same lap these two racers had.  He came at seven tenths behind the first and second place duo.

Fourth came Cal Crutchlow, on the LCR Honda.  Only two more seconds behind Crutchlow, Danilo Petrucci’s Pramac Ducati took home fifth place.

These two last bikers were part of the queue that lined up behind Zarco, but they got clear after the extra lap and Yamaha allowed setting the three bikers free, leaving Johan Zarco in the eighth position.

Maverick Vinales, who ended up being in position 6 was last year's Qatar champion. During the race, he struggled and was in position 15 most of the time.

Avdrea is number 1 in all-time riders, with 25 total points.
