It is an influx of foreign car makers into India as soon the market was opened for competition in the mid 90s. Everybody tried their heart out to enter into the “country’s top –selling brand” bracket and achieve a sizable chunk on Indian Road, but nobody was able to overtake Maruti Suzuki as the market leader Data supported by HT confirmed that the company accounts for 4 biggest selling cars in the country in the financial year 2013-14 and this scenario is same for last 3 years. Maruti Suzuki rules the Indian road and the scenario are expected to remain same in near future. The overall car market totals up to 1% of the total automobile market and everybody wants to get a large pie of the cake. Nearest rival Hyundai launched Grand i10 with lot of fanfare, 18 months ago but it is yet to get the tag of highest selling car. Mahindra and Tata with similar reach through distribution, is yet to put up a challenge to Maruti. At present Maruti Swifts accounts for 24% share of market in the hatchback segment of cars in Indian market leaving the behind Hyundai i10 and Ford Figo by 15% and 12%. With New Maruti Swift Launch company expects to push it sales more higher in the coming months. Entry level car Alto, is ruling the road for last 11 years running, and its new launches Deere, the sedan variant and Swift, the hatchback one has crossed sales, for the 1st time, over 200,000 units. 15 –years old variant Wagon R still remains the 4th favorite.
